The word maximalism has been thrown around quite a bit lately. If you’ve been living under a minimalistic rock and you’re still not sure what maximalism means; here’s “10 Signs You Might Be a Maximalist” from Apartment Therapy and “What Is Maximalism?” from The Huffington Post.
For the sake of time, maximalism is the complete opposite of minimalism. Meaning, instead of white walls and paring down to a few necessities and simple décor, you paint every room a different shade of pink or orange (even better if it’s a multi-colored wallpaper) and display your entire record collection on the wall. Sounds fun, right?
Maximalism is not only a home décor trend; it’s also big in fashion. There’s nothing more maximal than some of the accessories seen on the runway during Milan Fashion Week. Everyone from Versace to Gucci put out their most show-stopping pieces to dazzle the crowds. While we hate to put ourselves in a box, and Corbett blends in with many trends, we couldn’t help but think of some of our fixtures when looking at these maximal accessories.
Versace channeled an under-the-sea vibe with blinged-out starfishes; we create a similar vibe in our Dolcetti fixtures with real seashell, crystals, and blue tones reminiscent of the ocean. Dolcetti gets its name from the Dolcetti silver used to create the stunning fixture. Can’t you imagine this model walking straight off the runway into the gorgeous room on the right?
Not many people can pull off putting a tiara around a model’s neck, Gucci, however, can. The tiara’s jewel-covered stars had us thinking of our Superstar sconce. A tiara and a sconce are both small accessories that pack a lot of punch into your outfit, or room. Both pieces have a vintage feel to them, the tiara a throwback to a time of royalty, and the superstar sconce uses antique silver leaf for a lovely worn-in look.
This large, floppy, golden hat seen on the Missoni runway is a dead ringer for our Pulse fixture. Pulse is created from multiple handcrafted and folded iron mesh screens fit together, forming a suspended element of fluid motion. Ranging from a 12 to a 20-light pendant, or an LED sconce and semi-flush mount, Pulse adds maximalism to your space in big or small ways.
The blown-glass-look of these green earrings, seen on an Etro model, gives us major science-vibes, like our Element fixtures. Element is genuinely a maximalist fixture, especially the 40-light (yes, FORTY) pendant with smoked and frosted glass, Vienna bronze, and a 10’ aircraft cable suspension. Aircraft cables holding your 40-light fixture? We can’t think of anything more maximal.
From trends and colors to patterns and motifs, the fashion and decor worlds are constantly colliding and inspiring one another. Like every outfit, every room needs a focal point, and Corbett fixtures will always be there to act as that. Much like a simple outfit becomes a great look with the use of special accessories, beautiful lighting takes a room to the next level.
